Sioma Ngweizi National Park

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 5000 km² Sioma-Ngweizi National Park is surrounded by a further 35,000 km² Game Management Area in the Siloana Plain and is located in the western province of Zambia a little west of the upper reaches of the Zambezi on the border with Namibia . It can be reached from Livingstone via a well-paved road via Sesheke and the Zambezi Bridge .

The park is considered wild and undeveloped. It consists of teak forests, open bushland and Kalahari vegetation. Parks in Namibia and Botswana connect to the south . There are 3,000 elephants, cheetahs, zebras and, above all, antelopes: puku, impala, roan, saber, kudu. The animal population has suffered greatly as a result of the civil war in nearby Angola , where the animals migrate, and is only recovering slowly.

There are no facilities for visitors in the park, but there are a few lodges nearby on the Zambezi , from where day tours of the park can be started.
