Sione Havea Vailahi (born September 8, 1958 in Nuku'alofa , Tonga ) is a wrestler , better known under the name The Barbarian . He worked for both WWF and WCW .

biography

Vailahi was born in Nuku'alofa on the island of Tonga in 1958 . As a teenager, he became one of five chosen by the King of Tonga to go to Japan to learn sumo wrestling . He finished his training and started as a Yokinoshima .

He eventually emigrated to the USA and began to train under Red Bastien wrestling . In 1980 he made his debut and started as King Konga in the wrestling umbrella organization NWA in 1981 . Initially on the road as Face , he soon became a heel due to his appearance and stature and was given the name Konga the Barbarian . The name was later abbreviated to The Barbarian and in 1988 the Tag Team The Powers of Pain was formed with Terry Szopinski as The Warlord . The team was an imitation of the very successful Road Warriors , with whom a feud program was also started. But before the feud could be officially ended, the team switched to the WWF and the Champions Demolition there were selected as opponents. At the Survivor Series in 1988, both teams changed their minds twice, when the Powers of Pain exchanged their face status for the heel status of Demolition and vice versa.

The team was disbanded in 1989 and Vailahi resumed as a single wrestler and member of the Heenan Family group. In 1992 he signed a contract with WCW and was able to win the WCW United States Tag Team title together with Dick Slater .

In 1994 he returned to WWF at short notice and joined the reformed team The Headshrinkers . In 1995 he went back to WCW and the new tag team Faces of Fear with Meng was founded. You were part of the organization until the takeover in 2001. Then Vailahi went on an independent basis for various small wrestling organizations, including again with The Warlord as Powers of Pain .

Private

Sione is married to Seini and has seven children. He now runs a construction company in Charlotte , North Carolina .
