Demolition (wrestling)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Demolition was a wrestling tag team that was mainly active in the World Wrestling Federation from 1987 onwards. During this time, the team was able to hold the WWF World Tag Team title three times and has achieved cult status among fans to this day.

WWF time

In 1983, the members of the new tag team, The Road Warriors, entered the wrestling stage and were hugely popular with fans thanks to their brutal wrestling style and revolutionary outfits. In order to counteract this team, which appears in the National Wrestling Alliance , the Team Demolition was created in the World Wrestling Federation . The outfit, as well as the face paints of the members was mainly based on Gene Simmons from the rock band KISS . The first cast was William Eadie , who was also the source of ideas for the team, as Ax and Randy Colley as Smash . This first appearance took place on January 17, 1987 against two jobbers . In addition, the team was assigned Johnny Valiant as manager . Demolition appeared as heels . Randy Colley had to leave the team soon, however, as he had previously appeared on a different team than Moondog Rex and the audience recognized him despite the shave and face-painting. As a result, Barry Darsow, a wrestler still largely unknown to the WWF audience, was hired as Smash.

When the Survivor Series 1987 she presented at a televised major event for the first time. In the meantime, Mr. Fuji has been chosen as the team's new manager. In the following years, Demolition was allowed to dominate the then very flourishing tag team scene until they were allowed to receive their first WWF World Tag Team title in 1988 at Wrestlemania IV against Strike Force . After defending their titles against The British Bulldogs and The Hart Foundation , a team, the Powers of Pain, was signed by the WWF in the summer , which was also an imitation of the Road Warrior style. It was originally planned to let the Powers of Pain win the title as Faces against Demolition, but Demolition was now so popular with the fans that the WWF was forced to change their minds.

At the Survivor Series in 1988, Mr. Fuji was put on the side of the Powers of Pain, which resulted in a double change of mind. The title, however, stayed with Demolition. After several more feud programs, they finally had to surrender the tag team title to The Brain Busters , consisting of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard , on July 18, 1989 . This ended the longest title reign to date for this title at 478 days. On November 4th of that year they were able to win back the title against the Brain Busters. This was followed by a feud program against the Heenan Family group , in which the Colossal Connection team , consisting of André the Giant and Haku , was. This was supposed to remove the tag team title from Demolition on December 30, 1989, before they met again at Wrestlemania VI and Demolition were allowed to become champions for the third time.

Crush is added

Eadie suffered from health problems. To ensure that Demolition remained present, newcomer Brian Adams was added as a third man named Crush . The title was defended at this time according to Freebirds Rules in changing line-ups, but Eadie withdrew more into the managerial role. At SummerSlam 1990 they finally gave the title to the Hart Foundation . Also at this time, the Road Warriors had been signed as Legion of Doom at the WWF and a feud program began with them. However, the high expectations of this feud were not fulfilled because Eadie was unable to compete full-time. After the Survivor Series in 1990, when they were defeated by the Legion of Doom, Kerry von Erich and the Ultimate Warrior , Eadie left the WWF. The last appearance at a major event had Demolition at Wrestlemania VII, then the team separated. Darsow subsequently became Repo Man and Adams briefly left the WWF to later return with a surfer gimmick .

Demolition outside the WWF

Eadie went after recovery on an independent level as Axis the Demolisher and also teamed again with the "original" Smash Randy Colley, as well as a third man, Demolition Blast (Carmine Azza) as Demolition. Eadie got into a lawsuit with the WWF over the use of the Demolition Gimmick, which he ultimately lost.

On September 29, 2007, Eadie and Darsow appeared again after 16 years as a demolition in United States Xtreme Wrestling, won the tag team title there and held it until the league was closed.

After being at an event in Pittsburgh for the Wrestling discovered and Newton Tattrie, also known as Geto Mongol was trained, he debuted in 1973. A Japan Tour in the same year finally opened him the chance to work with his coach for the first time. Nikolai Volkoff was out as Beppo Mongol, so he was given the ring name Bolo Mongol and they appeared as a tag team .

In September 1976 Eadie went her own way and began a career as a single wrestler. In 1986 he was part of the storyline as Super Machine about the suspension of André the Giant and his feud against Bobby Heenan's group. In 1987 Demolition was finally created and Eadie was able to hold the WWF World Tag Team title three times . Today Eadie is back working as a teacher and occasionally performing at legend events.

smash

Demolition Smash (born Barry Darsow on October 6, 1959 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American wrestler.

Darsow was working with Richard Rood , Michael Hegstrand and Joseph Laurinaitis as bouncers when they were discovered and trained by wrestling coach Eddie Sharkey. It made its debut in 1984 and initially got the gimmick of an American who had defected to the Soviets . The first major successes came when he worked under the ring name Krusher Kruschev together with Ivan Koloff and Nikita Koloff. In 1987 the World Wrestling Federation needed a replacement for Randy Colley as part of the new Demolition team and since Darsow was a wrestler unknown to the WWF audience, he got the position. Under the name Smash he was allowed to win the WWF World Tag Team title three times .

From 1990 he then teamed up with the Crush, who jumped in for the sick Ax . After the team was completely disbanded, he got a new gimmick. He now appeared as Repo Man, a devious villain, but had only moderate success in this role. After leaving the WWF and a short time in independent leagues, Darsow came to WCW . Here he appeared as The Blacktop Bully and denied a feud program against Dustin Rhodes . After their fight at the major Uncensored event , he was fired for unauthorized blading . After a renewed time in independent leagues, he returned to WCW in 1997 under his real name and stayed there until 1999, although he no longer played a prominent role. After a few appearances at independent promoters, guest appearances at WWE , as well as a short reanimation of Demolition, Darsow withdrew from wrestling. To this day he makes occasional guest appearances at legendary events, but mainly focuses on his company, a printing company.
