Vale de Estrela (Portuguese: Valley of the Star ) is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district and district of Guarda in Portugal, which also includes the development of Albardeiros . Vale de Estrela is located in the Serra da Estrela and borders the Serra da Estrela Natural Park (PNSE).

history

Until 1928 Vale de Estrela was called Porcas . This toponym speaks for the existence of Vale de Estrela at the time of the Reconquista . Prehistoric and early historical finds are not known, although the place name was associated with dolmen.

In 1941 the waterworks (Central Elevatória das Águas) was completed, with which Guarda and the sanatorium Sousa Martins are supplied with pure, low-calcium drinking water through an eight-kilometer-long cast iron pipe. At the same time, Vale de Estrela was connected to the electricity and telephone network. There is no longer any evidence of the once important textile production ( cobertores de papa ).
