Sir Derek H. Barton Gold Medal
The Sir Derek H. Barton Gold Medal of the Royal Society of Chemistry has been awarded every two years since 2002 for achievements in organic chemistry . It is named in honor of Derek H. Barton .
The medal is only awarded for work published after the time the award winner turned 60. This reflects the career of Barton, who continued to do research at universities abroad even after his retirement in England (until his death at the age of 80). The award ceremony will be celebrated with a dinner at the Royal Society of Chemistry in London, at which Barton wanted only the best wines and food to be served.
