Sirin ensemble

The Sirin Ensemble ( Russian Ансамбль "Сирин" ) is a Russian church and folk music group .

The ensemble was founded in 1989 by Andrei Krotow with the aim of reviving the old orthodox musical traditions. The group was named after Sirin , a mythical creature from ancient Russian mythology.

The repertoire of the group, whose robes are modeled on traditional costume at their performances, include hymns from the earlier Old Believers' parishes (including singing chant (snamenny raspew), putewoi raspew, demestwenny raspew, Kiev chant (kiewski raspew), Bulgarian chant (bolgarski raspew ), Greek chants (grecheski raspew) and various monastery chants ), liturgical chants, ecclesiastical peasant tunes, sacred folk music and songs of the religious pilgrimage.

The Sirin Ensemble took part in choir competitions during concert tours in Europe and has received numerous awards. For example, the group performed at the European Symposium on Choral Music Festival in Ljubljana (1995), the Canterbury Festival in England (1998), the 5th World Symposion on Choral Music in Rotterdam (1999), the Musica Sacra in Marktoberdorf (1994, 2000) and at the celebrations for the 2000th anniversary of Christianity in Jerusalem .

The ensemble's publications have been awarded the French record price Diapason d'or , among others .
