Psyké Underground in Walibi Belgium ( Wavre , Wallonisch-Brabant , Belgium ) is a steel roller coaster of the Shuttle Loop model by the manufacturer Schwarzkopf , which was opened in 1982 in what was then Walibi Wavre . It drove from 1982 to 1998 under the name Sirocco , then from 1999 to 2008 under the name Turbine . At the end of 2008, the operator of the park announced that Turbine would not reopen in 2009. Since the start of the 2012 season, the park has been advertising with the slogan “2013 The Legend is Back”, officially announcing a reopening in 2013 under a new name (Psyké Underground).

When the train ran under Sirocco , it was completely in the open. For the 1999 season, a building to reduce noise was built around the station, the acceleration track and the looping . Only the two towers are still in the open.

The train was originally built in 1981 for an unknown park in Asia, where it was never delivered. After the order from Asia was canceled, it was then delivered to Belgium.

journey

The rear tower

The train is catapulted out of the station at 85 km / h into a loop by means of a linear synchronous motor drive and then climbs a 42 m high, 70 ° steep tower. After traveling backwards through the loop and the acceleration section, it does not come to a standstill in the station, but drives through it and drives up a second tower behind the station. It is only braked in the station after it has left.

Until 2012, the cars were catapulted into the loop with the help of a flywheel . In addition, the trip is now completely covered.

Trains

The train in the station

Turbine owned a train with seven cars. Four people (two rows of two people) could sit in each car. Lap bars were used as a restraint system. For the reopening in 2013, the railway got a new train.

reopening

On April 18, 2011, the park operator announced that Turbine would be reopened in 2013 under a different name. Construction work began on May 12, 2012 and should take twelve months. However, Walibi announced in March 2013 that the opening was delayed by three months. In April the first pictures of the new cars were found on the Internet. The first test drive was carried out on April 13th. The new name Psyké Underground was announced in mid-May. The opening was planned for June 2013, but the lift was not officially reopened until July 12th.
