Sissi (Original title: Princesse Sissi ) is a French - Canadian animation series by Bruno Bianchi . It first aired on France 3 on November 27, 1997 . The series is based on the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria , who was called Sisi .

For the young Bavarian Princess Sissi, her life changes from one day to the next when she meets the two Austrian Princes Franz and Karl . It doesn't take long before Sissi and Franz make plans for a life together. Several adversaries delay the wedding several times. Sissi and Franz have to fend off everything that can endanger their love and also have to reconcile Austria and Hungary .
