Seat rehearsal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A seat rehearsal in an opera or music theater is a musical rehearsal with the participation of the singers and the orchestra, in which the singers do not act on the stage, but sit like the orchestra musicians and hold their musical notes in their hands if necessary. They are directed by the conductor , while the stage rehearsals are mainly under the responsibility of the director .

Sitting rehearsals are important rehearsals in which singers and orchestra meet for the first time. Ideally, seat rehearsals take place in the theater, where the acoustics come closest to the final sound. For technical reasons, however, seat rehearsals often have to be held in the orchestra rehearsal room. The theater choir prepares for its task by rehearsing the piano. For particularly musically demanding works there are also piano seat rehearsals with the entire ensemble before the orchestra seat rehearsals. The joint work of singers and orchestra is continued in stage orchestra rehearsals . Only seat samples are required for CD recordings.
