Sivaganga (also: Sivagangai ; Tamil : சிவகங்கை Civakaṅkai [ ˈsiʋəɡaŋɡɛi ]) is a city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu . It is located in the southern interior of Tamil Nadu, about 400 kilometers southwest of the capital Chennai . Sivaganga is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The population is around 40,000 (2011 census).

Sivaganga was the capital of the Rajas of Sivaganga in the 18th century. In 1730 a vassal of the Setupatis (local princely title) of Ramanathapuram succeeded in usurping two-fifths of the rulers of Ramanathapuram as a result of succession disputes and becoming independent. His son and successor died in 1773 fighting the British, who then made Sivaganga part of British India . The palace built by them in Sivaganga still reminds of the time of the Rajas, today the main attraction of the city.

85 percent of the population of Sivaganga are Hindus , 10 percent are Muslims and 5 percent are Christians . As in all of Tamil Nadu, the main language is Tamil, which is spoken by 98 percent of the population as their mother tongue.
