The Skálmarfjörður ( isl. Leg fjord ) is a fjord in the Westfjords of Iceland .
The fjord is roughly the shape of a boot like Italy. The short side fjord Vattarfjörður forms the broad ledge. Vestfjarðavegur runs only in the narrow toe of the boot on the north coast . From the interior of the fjord a path used to lead through the Skálmardalur and the Skálmardalsheiði through the Gervidalur or Gjörvidalur to the inner Ísafjörður in Ísafjarðardjúp . The Skálmarfjörður lies in the north of the Breiðafjörður . It is 2.5 km wide and 15 km into the country. To the east of the fjord, the Svínanes headland rises to a height of 470 meters and to the west the Skálmarnes peninsula rises to 344 meters. There are no longer any permanently inhabited farms in Skálmarfjörður.
