The children's choir Skólakór Kársness from Kópavogur , Iceland , was founded in 1976 by Þórunn Björnsdóttir. The choir has grown continuously since then and is now an integral part of the Kársnes School. It is open to all students .

The students sing in three different age groups. The oldest and most talented children (between 12 and 16 years) were guests at the EJCF in Basel in May 2004 . In total, over 250 children take part in the numerous activities of the choir, which also include radio and television appearances as well as concerts with the national symphony orchestra .

The choir has a very extensive repertoire from simple children's songs to classical music , church music , jazz and contemporary music. Skólakór Kársness has already recorded six records .

Conductor

Þórunn Björnsdóttir is a nationally known personality in Icelandic musical life. In addition to many other mandates, she has been a member of the Pedagogical Committee for Nordic Music and a member of the Art and Culture Committee in Kópavogur since 1991 . She released several choir collections and various CDs for music lessons. She has already received several Icelandic awards for her commitment to music.
