Skadi Krause

Skadi Siiri Krause (* 1970 in Gera ) is a German political scientist and author .

Life

From 1990 to 1996 Krause studied philosophy , political science , sociology , German and Islamic studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She submitted her master's thesis in 1996 on the subject of self-determination and the modification of violence in the political philosophy of Eric Weil. Then, until 2006, Krause was a lecturer and research assistant at the Institute for Social Sciences at Humboldt University. In 2006, Skadi Krause was awarded a doctorate by Herfried Münkler. phil with the topic “The sovereign nation. On the delegitimization of monarchical rule 1788–1789 ”doctorate. Aurore Gaillet discussed the dissertation in the journal of the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History and emphasized that in this work different "research lines in political and legal science as well as legal history" intersect. “Throughout the entire work, one can determine the extent to which the understanding of politics and the law were linked at the time of the constitution.” From 2008, Krause taught at the University of Halle-Wittenberg at the Institute for Political Science and Japanese Studies. From 2013 to 2016 she worked there in the DFG research project "Theory and Practice of Democracy. Tocqueville's empirical conception of a 'New Science of Politics'". As part of this project, the anthology “Alexis de Tocqueville. Analyst of Democracy ”, which she published together with Harald Bluhm. Eva Marlene Hausteiner underlined the importance of this volume for Tocqueville research in her review: “It contains nothing less than a systematic overview of the methodological assessment of Tocqueville - complemented by exemplary deep drilling in his democracy-analytical practice. The brilliance and originality of Tocqueville's method - saturated with experience, inductive and context-sensitive - are exposed as well as the theoretical comparability, intellectual affinities and weaknesses of the supposedly so new political science. ”Krause published a monograph on her research focus in 2017 with the volume“ A new political science for a new world - Alexis de Tocqueville in the mirror of his time ". In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Günther Nonnenmacher praised the approach of integrating Tocqueville's political science into contemporary debates. The author has sifted through the French, American and English literature from his time, which illustrate the originality and foresight of the liberal. Volker M. Heins called Krause's monograph a "milestone in Tocqueville research": It shows "Tocqueville as the first great democratic theorist who examined the paths and mechanisms of long-term political change beyond mere description, speculation and typology."
