Skalpel is a Polish DJ duo from Wroclaw , consisting of Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło .

history

Skalpel was founded in 1998 in Wroclaw. In 2000, the duo became better known when they accompanied DJ Vadim on a tour of Poland. Pudło met the Russian DJ when he interviewed him for the hip-hop magazine Klan . In the same year was their first demo - EP Polish jazz releases. In 2001 they signed a contract with the renowned British independent label Ninja Tune , where they released two albums. In 2014, after a long break, the duo released a new album, Transit . In the meantime, the two Skalpel members devoted themselves to solo projects. Pudło released the album Breslau (as Igor Boxx) on Ninja Tune , while Cichy was among other things active under the name Meeting by Chance .

In 2005, Skalpel was awarded the Paszport Polityki in the Popular Music category.

style

Much of Skalpel's music is based on samples of Polish jazz music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, including Krzysztof Komeda , Tomasz Stańko and Laboratorium . Even though they only use samples, their music sounds very live .
