The Skarðsfjörður is a bay on the south coast in the east of Iceland .
This bay is east of the town of Höfn behind the Austurfjörur spit, west of Stokksnes . The bay is about 10 kilometers wide and extends 5 kilometers into the country. It got its name ( German "Passfjord" ) from the (mountain) pass Almannaskarð , the formerly steepest part of the ring road
. In the western part of the bay there are a number of small islands.
