Skeeter Bonn (born April 6, 1923 in Sugarville , Illinois , † November 6, 1994 ; real name Junior Lewis Boughan ) was an American country musician . In the early 1950s, Bonn regularly took part in four different barn dance shows .
Life
Childhood and youth
Skeeter Bonn was born in Sugarville, Illinois in 1923, but left his parents' farm at the age of 13 and moved to Canton , Illinois. Bonn began to sing and play the guitar at the age of 15 . In 1942 he was called up for military service and served in the US Navy , from which he returned in 1946. Bonn had married his wife Marie Louise as early as 1945, with whom he had three sons.
Career
After the war Bonn worked for the radio station WLDS in Jackson , Illinois, and in 1949 won the "Illinois Championship" as a singer. Bonn quickly built a reputation for itself as a talented yodeler and as a "pickin 'and singin' boy".
In 1951 Bonn moved to the station WHO in Des Moines , where he appeared every Saturday evening on the live show Iowa Barn Dance Frolic . Around 1953 he joined the ensemble of the WWVA Jamborees , but at the end of 1954 he switched to the once successful National Barn Dance , which had lost much of its former fame by that time. At the same time he was also working at WLW in Cincinnati , Ohio and their Midwestern Hayride . In order to make the public appearances, Bonn and his band traveled over 100,000 miles a year.
In 1954 Bonn also got a recording deal with RCA Victor , and in the same year his first single was released with Honey Baby / I've Been Down This Road Before . In 1955 he wrote the song Rock-a-Bye Baby for Sally Massey , which he recorded for Sa-Ma Records in the same year. Bonn's own version of the title was released in December 1955. A total of eight singles were released by RCA von Bonn.
Although Bonn was a talented musician, had a contract with a major label and was widely heard through his constant appearances in country shows broadcast nationwide, his breakthrough did not succeed. In 1957 he recorded a single for Admiral Records and in 1967 for Sims Records .
Skeeter Bonn died in 1994.
