Skellater House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skellater House is a manor house near the Scottish village of Bellabeg in the Council Area of Aberdeenshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

John Forbes lived in Skellater House in the 18th century

Laird Lachlan Forbes was the builder of the mansion built in 1727 . The year 1780 on a plate embedded in the masonry probably reflects the date of a revision or expansion. The building was expanded in the middle of the 19th century. In the meantime used by another branch of the Forbes clan , Skellater House was only sporadically inhabited in the late 19th century. The use of the manor house as a barn began around 1900 and lasted until the 1970s. During this time, the interior was largely lost. Restoration measures were carried out in 1976 and 2005.
