Skerryvore lighthouse
In June 1838 the construction of the Skerryvore lighthouse began under the engineer Alan Stevenson . The construction work on the small rock continued under adverse conditions until 1844. The construction workers, who lived in a specially built hut on stilts, and the later lighthouse keepers were the only residents of Skerryvore. After a devastating fire, the lighthouse failed between 1954 and 1959. It has been automated and vacant since 1994. The Skerryvore lighthouse is considered the most beautiful lighthouse in Scotland and is in the highest category A in the Scottish monument lists.
