Alan Stevenson (engineer)
Alan Stevenson (born April 28, 1807 in Edinburgh , † December 23, 1865 ) was a Scottish engineer and builder of numerous lighthouses around Scotland for the Board of Northern Lighthouses . In 1838 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .
The Stevenson family produced numerous lighthouse builders. His father Robert Stevenson and his brothers David Stevenson and Thomas Stevenson built lighthouses.
His nephews David Alan Stevenson and Charles Alexander Stevenson and his great-nephew and namesake Alan, the son of Alexander, continued the tradition.
Another of his nephews was the writer Robert Louis Stevenson .
