Charles Alexander Stevenson

Charles Alexander Stevenson (* 1855 in Edinburgh ; † May 9, 1950 ) was a Scottish engineer and designer of lighthouses around Scotland .

Charles was the father of David Stevenson and the brother of David Alan Stevenson and a nephew of Thomas Stevenson . He attended the University of Edinburgh . Between 1897 and 1937 he and his brother David erected twenty-three lighthouses around Scotland and was also known for his optical experiments. In 1886 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .

The family was well known for lighthouses, as grandfather Robert Stevenson and his cousin Robert Louis Stevenson had already worked in this area. The son Alan Stevenson (1891–1971) continued the tradition.
