Skyforest is a music project started in 2013 by the Russian metal multi-instrumentalist Bogdan "BM" Makarow from Podolsk .

history

In 2013 the Russian metal singer Bogdan "BM" Makarow founded the music project Skyforest in the Russian city of Podolsk . Makarow also founded the music projects Hiki , Annorkoth and A Light in the Dark .

The first album, Aftermath , which Makarow recorded with the help of the musician Tim Yatras from the band Germ, was released in August 2014 on the Spanish label No Remorse Records . For the release of the successor album Unity in 2016, Makarow was solely responsible for recording the instrumental parts of all pieces. For the singing, he brought Michael von Sul ad Astral on board. Unity appeared on the Ukrainian one-man label Depressive Illusions Records . The debut album Aftermath was later reissued. In August 2018, Makarov released the EP Harmony . In 2017 Unity was reissued as a vinyl record and released by Northern Silence Productions .

At the end of 2019, Skyforest was signed by the German label Northern Silence Productions, which released the third album A New Dawn in February 2020.

Style and ideology

Bogdan Makarow stated in an interview that he would assign Skyforest to Black Metal on an instrumental level , but not lyrically. He said that religion is not addressed in any way - even if only minimally - but that he takes up his life, his feelings and his love for nature.

The music is described as “highly atmospheric”, which also “ exudes a deep-seated melancholy ” and has “beautiful melodies that move you to tears ”. When it comes to instrumentation, the focus is on synthesizers and drums , while the electric guitars act more in the background of the music.

Makarov announced that he respected all religions and gave anyone freedom to believe whatever they wanted, as long as no one outside was influenced or forced to join the faith.
