Slapper fuse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The slapper is a fast detonator for explosives . It is used to ignite explosive substances almost simultaneously , including the explosives in atomic bombs . It is a further development of the bridge igniter .

Some of them are assigned to the foil detonators. The term foil igniter can refer to both bridge igniter and slapper igniter.

While in the classic bridge igniter the ignition chain is triggered by the increase in temperature (the ignition energy is thus generated thermally), the slapper igniter ignites by the blow triggered by the plasma of an evaporating metal foil.

Foil detonators are subject to export controls in Germany and Switzerland .
