Slide Rock State Park is a state park in the north-central US state of Arizona . It is located in the canyon of Oak Creek 11 km north of the city of Sedona in the area of the Coconino National Forest and is administered by the US Forest Service . Large red rock formations typical of the region surround the park.

The park is named after a natural water slide in the river, which determined the area's tourist importance. The state park is located in Red Rock County , the region in the south of the Colorado Plateau , which is characterized by distinctive, colored sandstone rocks.

The area was developed by Frank L. Pendley, who had lived in the canyon since 1907 and purchased land under the Homestead Act in 1910. Pendley developed an irrigation system that is still in use today and planted the first apple tree in 1912. From this he developed a 43 acre apple orchard. The state completed a road through the canyon in 1914, and Pendley built rustic tourist cabins in 1933, some of which are still in use today. Many famous Hollywood films were shot in the area. The area then known as The Pendley Homestead was bought by Arizona State Parks in 1985 and opened as Slide Rock State Park in October 1987. On December 23, 1991, the Pendley part of the park was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic District . The apple farm is one of the few farms still operating in Oak Creek Canyon today. There are three short trails in Slide Rock State Park, the Pendley Homestead Trail, the Slide Rock Route, and the Clifftop Nature Trail. Longer trails are available in the Coconino National Forest.

Slide Rock State Park is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Arizona during the summer months. Landscape photographs of the park are published nationally and internationally in all media.
