Slush (also slushy or slushie ) refers to a semi-frozen drinking ice, which is similar in consistency to slush or slushed ice . According to the guidelines for ice cream and semi-finished ice cream products published by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), slush ice belongs to the “ water ice ” category .

Similar products were already available in the USA in the 1950s, and in 1959 drive-in owner Omar Knedlik is said to have sold carbonated sodas from the freezer due to the lack of soft drinks . In cooperation with the mechanical engineer John Mitchell, he tried to market this beverage principle and the necessary machine on a large scale. This failed until in 1965 a manager of the 7-Eleven-Company accidentally noticed the drink and the machine at the competition. In 1967 the 7-Eleven licensed the brand name and began selling the Slurpee , which is still around today. However, the company Slush Puppie claims to have made the first slush in Cincinnati , Ohio , USA on November 12, 1972 after the invention of the slush machine by Will Radcliff (1939-2014) . The company's first sale in Great Britain was in 1977. The company's first sale in Germany was in 1978. Slush is a popular drink in the USA and England. Various types of slushes are part of the standard range, particularly in American ice cream parlors, petrol stations and fast food chains.
