Smashproof is a hip hop / R&B trio from the New Zealand city of Auckland . Deach, Tyree and Young Sid come from the south of the former city of Manukau City , where the industrial areas and the poorer districts are and also a stronghold of New Zealand hip-hop.

Band history

In 2005 the three first drew attention to themselves with the song "Ride Til I Die", which ran successfully in the clubs. This was followed by individual projects.

Tyree was the first to release a solo album in 2006 called "Now or Never", which received good reviews and earned him the award for best male artist at the Australasian Urban Music Awards 2007 in Sydney, Australia. His single "Ladies and Gentlemen" together with Deach and the Canadian rapper Cardinal Offishall came to number 21 in the New Zealand charts.

Young Sid was successful with his debut album "The Truth" in 2007 and reached number 27 on the album charts. In the category Best Urban Release it was nominated for a NZ Music Award and the Best Urban Album , it was with a waiata Maori award excellent.

Then began work on the first joint album "The Weekend", which was scheduled for 2009. At the beginning of the year they released the single "Brother" in advance, a collaboration with singer-songwriter Gin Wigmore . The song worked its way up the New Zealand charts quickly, reaching number one in week five . At the end of April, the song was at the top for the tenth time, topping the NZ charts longer than any other single by a local artist before. In total, "Brother" stayed at the top for eleven weeks and achieved double platinum status.

The album "The Weekend" also held its own against the international competition and entered the album charts at number 3 at the end of March.
