Smekkleysa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Smekkleysa (German for “ bad taste”), also known as Bad Taste , is an Icelandic music label . The company, founded in Reykjavík in 1986, is one of the most important labels in Iceland thanks to the (first) publication of the works of bands such as The Sugarcubes , múm and Sigur Rós .

The origins of the label go back to the successful sale of postcards that Ásmundur Jónsson , Einar Örn Benediktsson and other musicians from the alternative rock and punk scene in Iceland pursued in 1986 to raise funds for recordings by the band The Sugarcubes after the breakup of To round up KUKL . The band's first EP, Einn Mol'á Mann , was released that same year and was the label's third release.

One of the principles of Smekkleysa today is that the label does not release more than one album for any musical group. All proceeds go to support new art and music projects. The careers of numerous Icelandic bands began with the label; For example, the first three studio albums by Sigur Rós were released by Smekkleysa. The artists who have published on Bad Taste include Björk ( Gling-Gló as Björk Guðmundsdóttir & tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar), GusGus ( 15 ára , 2010) and Mínus ( Jesus Christ Bobby , 2001).

The label has a record shop at Skólavörðustígur in the center of Reykjavík. International distribution is organized, among other things, by the English label One Little Indian .
