Lists on the subject

The Smeltschak ( Russian Смельчак ) is a precision-guided Soviet mortar shell . The GRAY index of the grenade is 3F5 , that of the overall system is 1K113.

development

System development at the manufacturer “Ametech” in Moscow began in the early 1980s. The system was used on a test basis during the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan and has proven to be extremely effective there. Smeltschak was officially introduced in the mid-1990s.

technology

The Smeltschak is fired from a conventional 240 mm mortar , as is also used in the 2S4 Tjulpan self-propelled gun . The propellant charge shoots the weapon out of the gun barrel. Immediately after leaving the pipe, the stabilizing wings unfold. The grenade now follows a ballistic trajectory. When approaching a target, it automatically steers to the target point marked by a laser . For this purpose, rocket engines are ignited at a height of 20 to 600 m above the ground, which correct the trajectory of the grenade by means of pulses (RCIC pulse correction technology). The target must be continuously illuminated (marked) with a laser by a forward artillery observer for 5 to 15 seconds . Since different laser frequencies can be used, several Smeltschak can fight different targets at the same time. Likewise, several Smeltschak can be directed towards a single target. There is a further developed version Smeltschak-M (GRAU-Index Grenade 3F5M, System 1K113M).
