Smiggers Island is an island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the group of the Pitt Islands it is 1.5 km southeast of Weller Island .
Running recordings from Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. from 1956 were used for mapping purposes by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1959 after Joseph Smiggers, a character from the serial novel The Pickwickier (1836-1837) by the British writer Charles Dickens .
