The Pitt Islands are a group of small islands off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . They are located immediately north of Renaud Island at the northern end of the Biscoe Islands .
The British John Biscoe named an island supposedly 40 km west-northwest of this group of islands as Pitt's Island . The Australian polar explorer John Rymill transferred the name of the non-existent island to the island group described here after mapping the same in the course of the British Graham Land Expedition (1935-1936). It is named after the British politician William Pitt the Younger (1759–1806).
