The Renaud Island is the largest island of Biscoe Islands in the Antarctic . It is about 40 kilometers off the Antarctic Peninsula and about 100 kilometers north of Adelaide Island . The ice-covered island has a land area of ​​around 618 km² and a coastline of around 148 kilometers.

The island was discovered by the English whaler John Biscoe on his Antarctic expedition (1830-1832). In 1908 it was mapped by Jean-Baptiste Charcot , who named it after the French hydrograph Marie Joseph Augustin Renaud (1854–1921).

On the rocks of the Armstrong Reef , two kilometers southwest of Renaud Island, is one of the largest colonies of the Adelie penguin in the Antarctic Peninsula. In 1984, 12,800 breeding pairs were counted. The colony is designated as an Important Bird Area (Ant007) by BirdLife International .
