Smile Empty Soul is a California alternative rock - band .

With the band name Smile Empty Soul , the three Californians want to express that many people seem happy at first glance, but actually feel lost and empty.

Band history

Before Smile Empty Soul

Before Ryan, Sean and Derek formed a band, they partly played in a band called Heckler's Veto . The songs Rain and Meaningless also come from this period .

Beginnings

Sean Danielsen, Ryan Martin and Derek Gledhill met in high school in the "bedroom community" of Santa Clarita , California , and in 1999 they formed the band Smile Empty Soul. After a few smaller gigs in the Los Angeles area and the first recorded demo, Todd Parker of ThroBack became aware of the band. The contact helped the boys to sign a record deal with Lava Records in 2001.

The trio then went into the studio with producer John Lewis Parker in early 2003 and produced the self-titled debut album Smile Empty Soul . It achieved gold status in March 2005.

Since 2005

In May 2005, after Anxiety was finished, Derek Gledhill was kicked out of the band and replaced by Dominic Weir. Derek himself said that the reason for this was that he embodies a different style than the one that you try to embody with Smile Empty Soul. He just wouldn't fit into the band and its concept.

At a concert on September 22, 2005 at The Beaumont Club in Kansas City Missouri, Sean Danielsen announced that their new album Anxiety would not be released. This also said, quote: "Lava Records sucks my ass" (translation: "Lava Records can lick my ass " ).

So it was clear: Smile Empty Soul left their label at the time. This put too much pressure on the band to perform. The dispute was about the fact that Lava Records vehemently called for another radio hit similar to Bottom Of A Bottle to be written. The band therefore recommended that their fans, due to the possible non-appearance of the album, either buy one of the few already pressed copies, or download it online from the Internet. Because in the end it's all about the music.

In June 2006 Smile Empty Soul signed a record deal with BielerBros. Records, their current independent label.

On October 24th, 2006 her album, Vultures (Ger. Carrion vultures) was released.

On October 29th, 2008 the band was signed by the record company FOF / EMI, their current album "Consciousness" was released on August 25th, 2009 under this label. The first single from this album is "Don't Ever Leave".

On May 22, 2012, her album, 3's , was released.

Meanwhile, Smile Empty Soul is under contract with eOne Music, where the group has signed a worldwide record deal.
