Smithfield is a small town in Isle of Wight County in the US state of Virginia with 8089 inhabitants (2010).

The city is the seat of Smithfield Foods Inc., the largest pork producer in the USA belonging to the Chinese WH Group .

Smithfield is known for Smithfield ham , an American ham specialty that matures between six months and a year.

The Isle of Wight County Museum in Smithfield has a number of local history exhibits, as well as what is believed to be the world's oldest ham and allegedly the world's oldest peanut. The museum is located in a former bank building in the historic old town of Smithfield and, together with the courthouse, which was built between 1750 and 1751, is one of the main attractions of the much-visited town.
