The Smoot rock is an isolated promontory in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It rises about 11 km east-southeast of Mount Steinfeld and east of the head end of the Hull Glacier .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own measurements and using aerial photographs of the United States Navy in the years from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names renamed it in 1974 by Henry T. Smoot, who from 1969 to 1970 as a meteorologist on the Byrd station was operating.
