Sneaky feelings

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sneaky Feelings were a New Zealand rock band and a representative of the Dunedin Sound .

history

The band was formed in 1981 in Dunedin by Scottish singer and guitarist Matthew Bannister, guitarist David Pine, bassist Kat Tryie and drummer Martin Durrant. They derived the band name from a song by Elvis Costello . Her musical style was based on the Beatles , the Byrds and psychedelic music. For the first time in appearance, the band came in 1982, when three of her songs on the EP Dunedin Double label Flying Nun Records appeared, in addition to music of the band The Chills , The Stones and The Verlaine . In the same year, also with Flying Nun Records, their debut single Be My Friend was released , which reached number 31 in the New Zealand charts. The band's first album, Send You , was recorded in May 1983, but it missed the charts. It was reissued in 1992 as a CD with additional bonus tracks. Kat Tryie got out in 1983 and was replaced by John Kelcher. 1985 followed a compilation cassette with the title Take Sides and the single Husband House , which came to number 16 in the charts. However, the single Comming True flopped, but is also included on the 1986 album Sentimental Education , which, like the debut, did not reach the charts. This album was also released in Europe and was later re-released with an expanded track list.

Also in 1986 was the compilation Waiting for Touchdown , on which songs from the debut album Send You and the singles Husband House and Better Than Before can be found. The latter song reached number 34 on the charts in 1986. In 1987, Trouble With Kay, a last, poorly successful single from Sentimental Education was released. In 1988, Hard Love Stories was the band's third and final studio album. Martin Durrant left the band in the same year and Ross Burge came as a new drummer. After the single Long Time Gone in the same year, there were no new releases by the band before the group split up in 1989. In 1992 there was a short reunion due to the new edition of Send You . After that, however, the band members returned to their own projects. Bannister played in the groups Dribbling Darts and The Weather . David Pine is his country's diplomat and high commissioner in Malaysia . John Kelcher was a 2014 candidate for the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand in Christchurch .
