The SNECMA Atar is a single-shaft jet engine from the French manufacturer SNECMA . The first Atar 101 engine was developed between 1945 and 1947 under the direction of Hermann Östrich on the basis of the BMW 018 and, like the latter, is equipped with an axial compressor and an axial turbine . It can be equipped with an afterburner . Atar stands for the At elier A éronautique de R ickenbach, an interim research facility in Lindau- Rickenbach on Lake Constance.

Atar 8

Engine with two-stage turbine and improved compressor, but without an afterburner. The development took place between 1954 and 1956. The Atar 8B engine was used in the Dassault Étendard IV . The Atar 8K-50 variant was a simplified version of the Atar 9K-50 for the Dassault Super Étendard .

Atar 9

Atar 09C

Engine with nine-stage compressor and two-stage turbine with afterburner. The Atar 9C was used in the Dassault Mirage III and 5 . The Atar 9K-10 variant with improved combustion chambers and turbine blade cooling was built into the Dassault Mirage IV . The Atar 9K-50 is a further improved Atar 9C with a revised compressor and a newly developed turbine. It was used on the Dassault Mirage F1 and Mirage 50 .
