So Little Time ( The Peking Theme ) is a song by Dimitri Tiomkin (music) and Paul Francis Webster (lyrics) released in 1963.

Tiomkin and Webster wrote So Little Time for the monumental film 55 Days at Peking (original title 55 Days at Peking , 1963) directed by Nicholas Ray , with Charlton Heston , Ava Gardner and David Niven in the lead roles. In the film, the song was used as a melancholy love song that was supposed to accompany the romance between an American major and a Russian baroness, both as an instrumental title and as a vocal number. The song, which is sung by Andy Williams in the film , received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1964 .

The vocal version of Williams used in the film appeared on a single (Columbia 4-42784, coupled with the Doc Pomus song Hopeless ), on the soundtrack album 55 Days at Beijing and later on the Williams album B Sides and Rarities (2003). Cover versions of the movie song took u. a. Tommy Reilly ( Philips BF 1248), the Duke Ellington Orchestra (1964) and Mitch Miller . In the German dubbing of the film, the song is interpreted by the Botho Lucas choir .
