Manlius Valerius Thomson

Manlius Valerius Thomson (born August 13, 1802 in Scott County , Kentucky , †  July 22, 1850 in Georgetown , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1840 and 1844 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky.

Career

Manlius Thomson attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1822 at Transylvania University in Lexington . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Georgetown. He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Whig Party . In 1840 he was elected to the Kentucky Senate, of which he was acting chairman ( speaker ).

Also in 1840, Thomson was elected lieutenant governor of Kentucky alongside Robert Letcher . He held this office between 1840 and 1844. He was deputy governor and official chairman of the state senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he moved back a member of this Chamber of Parliament. In 1847 he was named colonel in a Kentucky infantry regiment during the Mexican-American War . In this capacity he took part in the war. In the presidential elections of 1848 he was one of his party's electors. Manlius Thomson died of cholera on July 22, 1850 in Georgetown .
