Mitchell Cary Alford

Mitchell Cary Alford (born July 10, 1855 in Fayette County , Kentucky , †  December 9, 1914 ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1895 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky.

Career

Mitchell Alford attended Kentucky University until 1877 , which then became Transylvania University . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1879, he began to work in a law firm. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He initially held a local office in the county government of Fayette County. After that he was in Lexington judge at the Recorder's Court . He was then elected to the Kentucky Senate, where he was initially chairman of the budget committee. He later headed the Railway Committee.

In 1891, Alford was elected lieutenant governor of Kentucky alongside John Young Brown . He held this office between 1891 and 1895. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After his tenure as lieutenant governor was over, he served as Democratic Chairman of State for Kentucky for several years. He was a co-founder and then president of the First National Bank of Middlesboro . He also held shares in a Lexington hotel for which he also controlled the finances. He died on December 9, 1914.
