James R. Hindman

James Robert Hindman (born February 4, 1839 in Adair County , Kentucky , †  October 12, 1912 in Columbia , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky.

Career

The sources on James Hindman are very poor. Nothing is known about his youth and school education. There is also no information in the sources about his career outside of politics. Even his place of birth is given differently, once in Adair County and once in Bourbon County . What is certain is that he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In 1882, Hindman was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky at the side of J. Proctor Knott . He held this office between 1883 and 1887. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1892 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives . He died in Columbia on October 12, 1912. The town of Hindman in Knott County was named after him.
