James William Bryan

James William Bryan (born June 9, 1853 in Bourbon County , Kentucky , †  1903 ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky.

Career

James Bryan graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1873 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1875, he began to practice this profession. He worked in a law firm with the former governor and then US Senator John W. Stevenson . He later became a member of the O'Hara & Bryan law firm . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In the presidential election of 1880 he was one of the democratic electors. He was a member of the Kentucky Senate in 1885 and 1886 .

In 1887, Bryan was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky alongside Simon Bolivar Buckner . He held this office between 1887 and 1891. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he no longer appeared politically. Since 1880 he was married to Virginia Ellis Martin. He died in 1903.
