The Kentucky Wesleyan College is a private Methodist school based in Owensboro in the State of Kentucky . The focus of the course is on the so-called Liberal Arts .

Kentucky Wesleyan College was founded in 1858 by the Methodist Episcopal Church . The university received its state approval in 1860, but did not begin teaching in Millersburg until six years later due to the American Civil War . After initially focusing on the training of preachers , it shortly afterwards expanded its range of courses to include courses in economics and liberal arts. In 1890 the seat moved to Winchester due to the better train connection , a few years later women were admitted to the university. After the Second World War , a new campus was established in Owensboro from 1951 built.

The university, with around 900 students enrolled, is divided into departments for social sciences , natural sciences, and humanities and fine arts . The course, which ends with a bachelor's degree after four years , is based on a general education program for all students, which is supplemented by a major selected from 36 different subjects of the three departments . The sports department, whose teams compete under the name Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers , belongs to the Great Lakes Valley Conference in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .
