James Breathitt

James Breathitt Jr. (born December 14, 1890 in Hopkinsville , Kentucky , †  October 29, 1934 there ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1931 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky.

Career

James Breathitt attended public schools in his home country and then Center College in Danville . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. During the First World War he was in a training camp for the US Navy squadron in Boston . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . At the state level, he achieved great influence within this party. He was now a member of the Kentucky Senate and took part in 1928 as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Houston .

In 1927 Breathitt was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky. He held this office between 1927 and 1931. He was deputy to Republican governor Flem D. Sampson and chairman of the state senate. He died on October 29, 1934 in his hometown of Hopkinsville of pneumonia contracted at the funeral of former Governor JCW Beckham .

James Breathitt was the uncle of the future governor Edward T. Breathitt (1924-2003). He was also a great-great-nephew of John Breathitt (1786-1834), who was among other things governor and lieutenant governor of Kentucky.
