Steve Pence

Stephen B. "Steve" Pence (born December 22, 1953 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is an American lawyer and politician of the Republican Party , who was, among other things, lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky.

Life

After attending school, Pence first studied at Eastern Kentucky University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree . He then completed a postgraduate course in business administration at Eastern Kentucky University in 1978 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Another law degree at the University of Kentucky , he graduated in 1981 with a Juris Doctor (JD) and after the subsequent admission to the bar in the state of Kentucky in 1981 assistant to the Attorney General of Kentucky.

In 1982 he joined the US Army as an officer and served there in the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) until 1987 . He then remained in the US Army Reserve and was last promoted to lieutenant colonel (JAG). After retiring from active military service, he worked as a lawyer and most recently from 1995 to 2001 partner of the law firm Pedley, Zielke, Gordinier & Pence .

After he was US Attorney for the Western District ( Western District ) of Kentucky between 2001 and 2003 , he became Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky in 2003. He was the first lieutenant governor of the state from the Republican Party after almost 60 years , after Kenneth H. Tuggle was Kentucky Republican lieutenant governor from 1943 to 1947. In 2007 he was succeeded by the Democrat Daniel Mongiardo .
