Edward J. McDermott

Edward John McDermott (born October 29, 1852 in Louisville , Kentucky , †  May 1, 1926 ) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1915 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky.

Career

After a law degree from Harvard University and his admission to the bar, Edward McDermott began to work in the profession. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1894 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives ; in June 1916 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis , on which President Woodrow Wilson was nominated for re-election.

In 1911, McDermott was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky alongside James B. McCreary . He held this office between 1911 and 1915. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1915 he ran for governor to no avail. He died on May 1, 1926.
