James E. Cantrill

James Edwards Cantrill (born June 20, 1839 in Bourbon County , Kentucky , †  April 5, 1908 in Georgetown , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1883 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kentucky.

Career

Nothing is known about James Cantrill's youth and schooling. There is also no information in the sources about his career outside of politics. During the Civil War he served as a captain in a cavalry unit in the Confederation Army . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In 1878 Cantrill was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky alongside Luke P. Blackburn . He held this office between 1879 and 1883. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he no longer appeared politically. James Cantrill was the father of Congressman J. Campbell Cantrill (1870-1923). He died on April 5, 1908 in Georgetown, Scott County .
