Martin Wallimann

Martin Wallimann (born November 4, 1958 in Alpnach , † February 5, 2014 in Sarnen ) was a Swiss publisher , art printer , exhibition maker , art teacher and politician .

Life

Martin Wallimann grew up in Alpnach. He trained as an offset printer at the graphic technical school in Aarau. In 1993 he founded a craft atelier for printmaking, initially with an artisanal letterpress press , and later a lithographic press with which he made lithographs . Many artists such as Franz Bucher , Konrad Abegg and Godi Hirschi worked with Wallimann. "Martin Wallimann's studio became a creative smithy ... The studio for original graphics was an extremely creative stroke of luck for art in Central Switzerland."

In 1991 Wallimann founded the Martin Wallimann publishing house in Alpnach , in which he published around ten titles per year in the categories of fiction and documentary literature, art, poetry and anagrams . Wallimann had published over 200 books by his death in 2014. The publishing house ceased operations at the end of 2014. The publishing house and the publishing group were dissolved at the beginning of 2015, and the entire publishing program was taken over by Edition Buchlese in Hitzkirch . The printing machines are to remain in Alpnach and continue to be used by artists and printmakers as part of a center for the graphic arts.

Wallimann initiated several literary and cultural events, including the farm readings in the Ronmühle in Schötz , the annual poetry night in Sarnen and the book fair "Luzern Bucht" in the Kornschütte in Lucerne . Wallimann conveyed art through exhibitions he designed, such as in the Schlosshof cultural area in Alpnach, the Alpnachstad 2002 Art Trail , the Horw Cultural Axis 2007 , the Obwalden Art Space (Turbine Giswil) 1997/1998/1999, the Anagram Days Lucerne since 2001 and most recently through the Exhibition in the Sarnen Historical Museum about the Obwalden painter Giuseppe Haas-Triverio from August to November 2013.

Since 2000 Wallimann had a teaching position for artistic and technical design at the upper school in Sachseln .

Wallimann was married and the father of two sons. He lived in Sarnen since 2011.

Political and public offices

As a member of the CSP, Wallimann was a member of the Obwalden cantonal council from 2000 to 2005 , where he was particularly committed to cultural and social issues.

Wallimann was the founder of the athletics squad of the STV Alpnach gymnastics club and vice-president of the Central Swiss Athletics Association. He was considered a sponsor of the marathon runner Viktor Röthlin .
