Society for Sedimentary Geology

The Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) is an international, non-profit organization for sedimentology , stratigraphy , paleontology , marine geology, hydrogeology , environmental science, and related fields based in Tulsa , Oklahoma . The abbreviation SEPM comes from the previous name of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists (founded in 1926).

One of the founders was Raymond C. Moore , who was its president in 1928.

They publish the Journal of Sedimentary Research (JSR) and PALAIOS , publish a number of special publications, and have a newsletter, The Sedimentary Record . The society organizes workshops and conferences and awards several prizes. Her main prizes are the William H. Twenhofel Medal and for paleontology the Raymond C. Moore Medal for Paleontology . They also award the Francis P. Shepard Medal for marine geology, the Francis J. Pettijohn Medal for sedimentology, and the James Lee Wilson Award in sedimentology for young researchers. There is also honorary membership and a Distinguished Service Award for members.
