Sofie David , also Sophie David , married Sophie Bischoff-David ( May 13, 1875 in Bohemia - after 1926 ) was a German theater actress and opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

She took the stage for the first time at the German State Theater in Prague at the age of 14. She then traveled for two years as a “child prodigy”, during which she did not fail to perfect herself artistically through uninterrupted studies. In Berlin in particular she caused a sensation in the piece “Die kleine Prima Donna” written especially for her. In 1894 she took her first permanent engagement at the Stadttheater in Gdansk, came to Essen in 1895, where she stayed for two years and made a guest appearance at the Stadttheater Köln in 1897, where she gained everyone's sympathy in the storm and since then has been a popular soubrette. She worked not only through her cheerfulness and rascality, which was increased to delightful exuberance, but also through her intimate, warm emotional tones, with which she herself could move to tears.

After she had performed with great success at the Covent Garden Theater in London as “Grethel” in May 1901, she was invited to the Bayreuth Festival to perform “Weilgunde” in “Rheingold” and “Gerhilde” in “Valkyrie” "And to embody a" Rhine daughter "in" Götterdämmerung ". The “Rose Friquet” in the hermit's bell was called her real shine .

From 1904 to 1905 she and her husband Johannes Bischoff took part in a tour of North America with the Savage Opera Company .

From 1906 to 1910 she appeared at the Hoftheater in Hanover, from 1905 as "Wellgunde" at the summer ring performances in Munich, in 1909 and 1910 at the Berlin Court Opera, from 1910 to 1914 at the Ring performances at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. In 1913 she toured South America.

Her life after 1926 is unknown.

The singer's voice has been passed down through two very rare tracks on a record recorded in Berlin in 1909.
