Sofien Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sofien Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 75). It was performed for the first time on January 13, 1850 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The quadrille was written on the occasion of the first appearance by Johann Strauss (son) in the Sofienbad-Saal. At that time it should have been a carnival event. The orchestral version was lost. The CD recording mentioned below was made with the help of an arrangement by Professor Ludwig Babinski . Apparently the work was hardly played after the premiere. The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 24 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
