from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The artist's quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 201). It was performed for the first time on February 2, 1858 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

This quadrille should not be confused with the work of the same name, which is listed under Opus 71 . The work described here was written for the artists' ball in Mardi Gras in 1858 and was premiered on this occasion. It is a compilation or arrangement of pieces from the then current operas and concert schedules in Vienna. Music by Franz Schubert , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Ludwig van Beethoven , Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Carl Maria von Weber and Giacomo Meyerbeer was used . This mixture was very badly received by the critics at the time. Despite the criticism at the time, the Quadrille has remained on the repertoire to this day.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 10 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
